Mallorn's Libra Into
First blood tracking test with Unto for the season In Muhos May 13th. Unto got champion class 2 with 36 points. We are very pleased as we could only practise for the first time for this spring one week before (due to snow). Turns need more practising, otherwise Unto had performed very well. We have practised a bit with Into also and it seems he also has good genes for it, needs a bit of calming down on the track though :-).​

​Last weekend I was in Konnevesi at Labrador Retrievers' Speciality Show with Unto. I was there on behalf of the Finland Labrador Club's show committee but also attending the show myself. Into was a bit ill so Hannu stayed at home with him. We had a great weekend, lots of fun and good atmosphere! And Unto won Champion Class and became BD2 :-). I was happy and surprised really since I haven't been in the ring with Unto for a long time :-). Mallorn's Kennel also was BOB Breeder at the show! All results from Konnevesi can be read from here.

Since May we have focused on blood tracking with Unto. A couple of tests have been taken, with 0 results. We now need to get back to basics with Unto, hopefully he'll pick up again back to result hunting :-).
​
With Into we have practised obedience at Oulu Dog Club, also retrieving and blood tracking. Basic obedience is now in the key focus for us as it helps with other sports too. Into is literally a happy active dog that we enjoy working with. Into also took part in a few blood tracking tests getting Open Class 2 for one and 0 for the other. That shows us he has enthusiasm for it but needs to grow up and mature :-).

It's holiday time for us so we look forward to sunny lazy days with a lof of play and swimming :-). Have a great summer!

Unto became Finnish Champion in Pietarsaari May 6th! :-) Last CC took a while to get but now it was time for Unto. Into also got in both his two first official shows BD3 and RES CC :-). Now we can focus on other things like blood tracking with Unto. With Into we will continue with obedience and retrieving. Practising patience with Into is in focus as well ;-). Spring is here, dogs have already been swimming. Looking forward to summer, all of us! :-)

August already, where did the summer go? Since last update we have been to three blood tracking trials with Unto and have got 2nd prize twice. So not too bad :-). With Into we have practiced obedience and retrieving, he has lots of enthusiasm into whatever we do. Let's hope I can train him well enough and use that energy the right way.

We were in Club Show in Helsinki yesterday and Unto was Champion Class 4 and Into Junior Class 3 :-). Speciality Show in Oulu September 8th is our next show appearance. And we'll go to a blood tracking trial with Unto on August 19th.
​
Weather has been rather odd this summer, we haven't had too many sunny and hot days but lots of rain and cool temperatures instead. Well, I suppose summer like this has been easier for black dogs :-). Let's enjoy the last summer days! And look forward to the hunting season :-).

Summer has turned to autumn, leaves are falling and birds are flying back to south. Since last update we have been to speciality show in Oulu September 8th. Into was junior 4th with CQ and Unto was champion 4th. It was a lovely sunny day and our judges from Scotland (Mary McCulloch and Maurice Givan) seemed to enjoy the day too :-). The next day we headed for Hailuoto for Finnish Championships in Field Trial with our Scottish judges. Day was again beautiful and sunny and it was great to see real working dogs! We got to see a bit of the island itself too - lovely day all in all.​ Thank you Mary and Maurice for your company!

​​​Hannu has been hunting ducks and grouse with Unto, with Into we have concentrated on obedience and retrieving. We'll continue with obedience with Into also during the winter in Oulu Dog Club's group. Into has developed a lot with retrieving and is happy practising obedience also:-). I hope I could get into agility course with Into, I think it would do good for us. Other than that, we've been to the woods daily, some days we have got some berries, most days just fresh air :-). Enjoy the autumn breeze! :-)​

Unto participated in blood tracking trial today in Keminmaa and got Champion Class 2nd prize with 39 points! That was excellent and the critique was very good as well. This was really encouraging :-). We thought this would have been the last trial for the summer but let's see if we could still get into one.. :-) Into was with us in Keminmaa as well, or course, and practiced good manners when surrounded by dogs and people ;-) and am happy to say he did very well! Tomorrow duck hunting season begins in Finland and Hannu and Unto are prepared to spend the day outdoors. Next weekend we'll celebrate end of summer together with family and then week after it's the big weekend of speciality show and field trial Finnish Champions!

What an amazing day we had at the Seinäjoki INT dog show October 27th! Unto was BD1 with CACIB and was also BOS. Into was BD2 and got his first CC and also RESCACIB! :-) When you expect the least, happy things happen :-).

Winter is almost here - some minus degrees and light snow on the ground. River has an icing as well :-), last swans have headed for south, we'll welcome them again next year. Into has been taking part in obedience classes, with Unto we plan to do the same and continue where we left. Long walks in the woods are still on the agenda. Lately we haven't seen any wolves' or bears' tracks, luckily :-).

It has been three months since last update, oh boy! Time has flown really fast and days are already getting longer. Winter is fully here, we have lots of snow to play with :-). Christmas we spent with family, Santa also had remembered Unto and Into with a few gifts, so they must have been nice :-).

We have been to two dog shows since October with into - in Kajaani INT Into got EXC2 CQ and in Raahe group show VG2. Obedience classes take place every Sunday and now both boys are at the same class - Hannu and Unto joined the team! Basic retrieving is also on the agenda and most of all, patience. Taking the boys to swim has been in the plans, hopefully we get to try out one of the pools for dogs before the river runs free :-).

Last week we had an interesting encounter with game. I was on a walk in the woods with Unto and Into and suddenly a brown hare was jumping towards us across a field. Boys of course started to run toward it but I had other things in mind and called them once. They both turned around and run to me! Brown hare turned the opposite and vanished into the woods. Obedience does work! :-) (Someone however told me that if the brown hare would have also come to me, I would have been THE boss really ;-).

Boys are by the way changing coats at the moment - so Hoover is my best friend every day ;-). These days I kind of wish I didn't have two double coated dogs in the house.. We all look forward to the spring time, and luckily there are already some signs of it!

Oh boy, we've had a great spring and summer time! Both Unto and Into are well :-). Some excellent news for both - Unto became Tracking champion beginning of July and is now a double champion :-). We're so proud of him! And Into, he was qualified in the field in the beginning of June! Hannu and Into have been practising retrieving regularly and Into gets to go duck hunting this summer too :-). Soon it'll be the time for both boys to enjoy autumn with Hannu and all the hunting activities.
We've been to dog shows during spring and summer with Into, we've received good critiques, mostly EXCs with/without CQ. He matures quite slowly so we expect his best years to come :-). Unto is more or less retired from show rings. We'll show him however in the specialty shows still.
Summer seems to continue so we all enjoy the warm weather, swimming and long walks in the woods!
